Railway and motor roads connect the district to Sortavala, Petrozavodsk, Kostomuksha; the road network within the district is represented by improved unpaved surface motor roads.
Combined length of public motor roads in the district is 1650 km, including 460 km of regional-scope roads. Departmental roads run for 1190 km.
A railway junction is situated within the town of Suojärvi. Railroad carries both cargo and passengers.
Passenger transport services in the district are provided by the municipal enterprise "Suojärvsky lesopunkt", which operates 15 routes within the district and intercity connections. Additionally, transport services are provided by commercial companies and entrepreneurs.
Car registers of the district list 3939 various motor vehicles, of which 3325 (84.4%) are privately owned. The number of individually owned passenger cars is 3165. Thus, there is 135 cars per 1000 inhabitants, which places the district in the 11th position in the republic as regards this parameter.
